Abstract

Since May 2020, the Black Lives Matter movement has raised issues about representation in history, highlighting the lack of diversity in monuments and museums. George Floyd's death sparked debates about which lives matter and how historical narratives are shaped. The notable absence of women, Black people, and LGBTQIA+ individuals in museum collections calls for a gender museology approach to address these gaps. The UFRGS Museology Course, by introducing the "Museology and Diversity" discipline, has promoted the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ themes in exhibitions and projects, emphasizing the importance of diversity in historical narratives.
