OS ARMÁRIOS DOS MUSEUS
Keywords:
identity, museology, memory, institutionalized violence, cultural representationsAbstract
This essay reflects on the metaphor of the "closet" in identity construction and body representation, linking it to museology. Drawing from personal memory, it explores how the closet can represent both a space of choice and a tool for suppression, particularly in conservative discourses that silence dissident identities. In museums, the "closet" exists both physically and symbolically, controlling what is displayed and what is hidden. The text argues that museums must reassess their representations, taking responsibility for the institutionalized violence embedded in their historical narratives.
