Pogonas' trajectory in the production of social networks and trans recognition in the city of Campinas

This paper presents an analytical account on the trajectory of Pogonas, a sports collective formed by trans people in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo state, linking its history to broader processes of memory-making, belonging, and trans activism in contemporary Brazil. By reconstructing the group’s development from its formation and movements across urban space to its alliances and organizational practices, the discussion examines how community-based sports initiatives function simultaneously as spaces of care, sociability, and resistance in the face of the structural violence affecting trans populations. Pogonas not only contests for legitimacy within the sports field but also creates collective ways of existing that affirm trans people’s rights to their bodies, leisure, the city, past, and future.
